CANDI was formed in 1993 by representatives from Ruspidge/Soudley, Cinderford & Drybrook Councils and other local statutory bodies.
CANDI's objectives are to focus on the needs of young people and to explore innovative ways to address youth crime.

CANDI is a flag ship organisation in the Forest of Dean , having evolved gradually over the past 15 years in response
to the identification of unmet needs of young people in Cinderford and the surrounding area.
The origins of the project are based in Parish Appraisals completed in both Cinderford itself and adjoining rural parishes,
which identified concerns felt by communities about the lack of provision for young people and the effects this was having on community life.

Throughout its development, CANDI has fully involved the local young people in shaping new elements and playing an active part in management.
New ventures have been evolved at a pace set by the needs of the young people.

CANDI links with a wide range of complementary activities and local networks which deliver services to

young people. e.g. Youth Offending Team, Social Services, Youth & Community Service, Probation,

GDAS (Gloucester Drugs and Alcohol Service) Shelter, Connexions, Prospect Training,
Women’s Aid, Cinderford Art Space, Colleges, Schools etc.

CANDI endeavours to provide a ‘One Stop Shop’ philosophy, working with partner organisations
to ensure young people receive a seamless service that is fair and equitable.
The ethos of the project from the outset, was to provide support and encouragement for young people to:
Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a positive contrtibution, Achieve economic well being.

The Project has been recognised by a number of National and local organisation as an example of good practice.
Over 50 groups have visited the ‘Drop In’ from around the country. In 2000 CANDI was awarded a Community Fund (National Lottery) grant,
which enabled us to purchase and refurbish the premises which house the ‘Drop In’ and Information shop in Cinderford.

CANDI is managed by members of the local community: Local Church, Business, Town, Parish and District Councils, County Youth Service.
